Filling and crowns
Fillings
Fillings are simply where a bit of the tooth has gone soft with tooth decay and needs to be made hard again. This is done by removing the soft decay and putting a hard filling in. Fillings come in many different types. At the English Dental Practice we only use the best white filling materials on the market.
White fillings are a great way to fix teeth which have tooth decay, but can also be used to make your teeth with old grey fillings look young healthy and fresh again. Ask our expert team at the English Dental Practice how we can make your teeth all white and bright again!
Crowns
A crown is like a crash helmet for the tooth! When a tooth has a crack or fracture or big old filling, it is often the only way to make a tooth healthy and functional again. If you have had a root canal treatment on a back tooth it always needs protection with a crown.
We can use crowns to protect teeth in danger of breaking or which have big old fillings, we can also use them to change the shape of worn teeth and have a vast array of different types of crown to choose from.
When do you use a crown rather than a filling?
You do a crown or "cast restoration" when the filling gets too big for the tooth without risk of cracking. The rules say that you should use a crown when the filling is bigger than 1/3 of the size of the tooth.
